The challenge.

American Foods Group needed a way to automate the process of separating whole muscle and trim from carcasses to make ground beef.

The system needed to include a way to load trim into combos, automate the weighing of the trim, and remove CO2 gas through an exhaust system.

A pack-off area for empty and full boxes was also needed.

The project included a trim combo loading system.

  • Layout and SolidWorks 3D modeling
  • Conveyor design and fabrication
  • Combo dumper design and fabrication
  • Mezzanines and catwalks
  • Pack-off area (empty and full box)
  • Utilities
  • Load combos while full combos were being removed
  • Report the weights of trim going into each combo
  • Automate the weighing of trim
  • Remove CO2 gas through the exhaust system
