3 Reasons We’re Proud to be a Small Business
Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.
We’re proud to be part of that group.
We Started Small.
It may be hard to imagine now, but Fusion Tech started small.
In 1998, we launched the company with three employees working out of a two car garage in the middle of nowhere (Roseville, Illinois to be exact). Come visit our facility sometime and you’ll say the same.
Our company was providing a service most fabrication shops didn’t: custom parts and equipment. Anything our customers needed, our team worked hard to meet their needs and deliver solutions on time.
Grew From There.
No one expected a business based out of a garage in the rural part of West Central Illinois to become a brand name known and preferred by some of the biggest names in the food processing industry.
But that’s what we did.
The quality and timeliness of our work caused the company to grow, landing some big-name clients in the food processing industry.
This growth caused us to expand quickly to the facility we have now — over 50,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space complete with a drafting and design office and near 100 employees — allowing us to provide completely custom solutions to our customers processing needs that aren’t found on the market today.
And Are Proud of It.
While we’ve grown a lot from our two car garage days (now our engineering and design office), one thing hasn’t changed — we’re proud to be a small business.
Here are just 3 reasons why we love being a small business.
Focused on Customer Service
Customer service has been our focus from day 1 — something that often gets lost in large corporations.
We all have horror stories of trying to get an answer, or necessary help, from a large corporation, only to be stuck on the phone with someone who cannot help or, worse yet, being told there’s nothing the corporation will do to help.
We hate those stories.
It’s why we continue to offer exception customer service, partnering with our customers for the long haul.
Invested in a Community
We started outside a small, rural town in West Central, Illinois — and stayed here.
Fusion Tech is invested in our region, hiring from the local area whenever we expand our workforce (with only a few who relocated for the job), sourcing materials and supplies from local businesses, and giving back to support our schools, city and county festivals, local veterans, and so much more.
We have supplied materials to local high school shop classes, hosted an area community college welding competition, and our owners mentor a high school student starting his own business through the Warren County CEO Program.
Our desire is to continue to expand locally, investing in the economic growth and health of the area we started in.
Able to Adapt and Grow
Being a small business gives us a unique advantage over larger corporations — we have the ability to adapt and grow.
In 2015, we purchased Cove Equipment in order to provide our customers with thermal processing, shredding, and slicing solutions we weren’t able to provide before.
In 2017, we became UL Panel Shop Certified to provide our customers with UL Certified electrical boxes.
We have designed and developed equipment that crosses into more industries than just food processing.
Our “small” size allows us to adapt and grow quickly, meeting the needs of our customers in ways large corporations never could.
Small Business. Big Name.
